Talkeetna is Alaska's Playground

Welcome to the land of the Midnight Sun where it is daylight over 20 hours a day! It is magical and your children won’t want to sleep until it gets (somewhat) dark. However, we do have some activities that are guaranteed to wear them out so that when they do go to sleep, they will sleep well.

When you arrive in Talkeetna, you can also ask your hotel staff or lodging owners for ideas and information. Have fun!

Things for Kids

Buy an ice cream cone and sit in the town park and listen to the music, especially “Live at 5” on Summer Fridays

Tour The Historical Museum

Don’t miss the room-sized scale model of Mt. McKinley.

Take pictures of each other in the painted plywood cut outs outside of the businesses in town.

Buy a book on birds, flowers, or berries of Alaska and try to identify as many as possible

Meet the train and pretend that you are a local and wave at the tourists

How many mosquitoes can you swat in an hour?

Raft with a guide down the Talkeetna River

Take a sightseeing trip up river in a Jetboat

Jog, walk or bike along the 14 mile spur road walking path

Spend time at the playground

Fish for salmon (get a fishing license if you are 16 or older)

Find a nice rock or piece of driftwood to take home as a momento

Fly around the mountain, land on or near a glacier and take a hike

Use the town map and let the kids plan the path

Walk the trail around XYZ Lakes

Have a look around, there's lots to do in Talkeetna!
