Race, Trail, Timing
Oosik distances are approximate but are generally a 25km and 50km race. Distance depends on route and snow conditions.

We try and make the 50km a single loop. Please yield to all in spandex and/or skiers sporting a pink bib; those are the 50K skiers.
The cut off time for the 50km skiers is at that they are at the mid point by 3:00 pm.

A sweep starts around 4:00 pm will hurry the red lantern to the finish. They will collect names and bib numbers from skiers who want to keep skiing.

All skiers have to show their bib number at the finish line. Please do not cross the finish line a second time, or when not in the race/tour.

We’ll post a map closer to the date.

Schedule of Events:
8:00am – 11:00am, Bib Pickup at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, mile 13 Spur Road. There will be a shuttle to take you to the race start at Mile 11 Gravel Pit.

8:00am – 11:00am ONLY! Ski Waxing at Gravel Pit start, Mile 11

9:45am – 10:15am, Junior Oosik Bib Pickup and Race at 10:30 / (scroll below for details)

12:00pm – 12:30pm, Race Start 50K then 25K (mile 11 Gravel Pit)

7:00pm, Award Ceremony

7:30PM – 12:00 AM, After-Party at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge

Parking is available at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and at the gravel pit start, but allow yourself enough time to get there. Once the lot is full at the Gravel pit then expect to walk 1/2 mile from off-street parking. Carpooling is highly recommended. Shuttles will run all day.

Please do not park in alleyways or block driveways (locals, EMS and our fire department need to have access). RV’s can park overnight at the Talkeetna Elementary school from Saturday 7AM – Sunday 5PM. This is located downtown across from the Latitude 62 Restaurant.

Sign up is from 9:45-10:15 at race start

Race Time: 10:30am / Place: Oosik race start

Cost: Your volunteer time before, during or after Jr Oosik Race. (See below for volunteer duties)

Course:

Skiers ages 6 and under: 1 kilometer
Skiers age 7-9: 2 kilometers
Skiers age 10-12: 4 kilometers
Medals will go to the top three finishers in each race and ribbons to all finishers!
Skiers may choose a course that is not in their age range, but if they are an older skier skiing in a lower age category they will not be able to earn a medal. (for example, a 9 year old may ski in the 4 kilometer race, but will compete with older skiers for medal. A 9 year old may ski in the 1 kilometer race but will not be able to compete for a medal)
* This is a classic-only race, no skate skis unless they are waxed for classic skiing! DO NOT send junior skiers to the wax tent. If you do not know how to wax skis, use fishscale/waxless skis.

* Cookies/snacks and hot drinks will be provided

Parent Volunteer Duties:

* 3 parents for registration and helping with bibs

*3 parent volunteers for the finish line (2 to time, 1 to write down times, 1 to give out ribbons,)

* 2 parents for food/drink table

*2-3 parents on-course at junctions

* 1 parent trail sweep
