2020 Oosik Ski Race

Historically the race has been held the 3rd Saturday of March. However, due to warmer temperatures we have CHANGED the DATE to SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 2020. 12:00 pm

General Info on Race, Trail, Timing
The race course is different every year. Oosik distances are approximate but are generally a 25km and 50km race. The 50km is a single loop added to the 25K. The cut off time for the 50km: skiers need to be at the mid point by 3:00 pm.
A trail sweep starts around 4:00 pm and will hurry all skiers to the finish. If you want to keep skiing then they will collect your name and bib number so that the timers do not have to wait around for you to finish.
50K start is 12:00 pm
25K start is 12:30 pm
There is also a Jr. Oosik and that race starts at 10:30 AM.
Racecourse changes each year due to conditions. The START will be at the Beaver Road gravel pit and the FINISH will (tentatively) be at the river end of Main Street.
Denali Nordic Ski Club manages the trail, all aspects of race including insurance, permits, transportation shuttles, feed stations and final feed at end of course. The Club then hosts the Awards Ceremony in the Village Park. There is a film presented the evening before (Friday) at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar that is presented by the Denali Nordic Ski Club and tells the story of the Norwegian infant king Haakon Haakonsson. Local businesses are encouraged to host music, special menus, extended hours and all other manner of support during the extended race weekend to serve as many of the race participants and spectators as possible. The Denali Nordic Ski Club will promote such efforts through it’s social media and website channels. Traditionally, the Ski Club has organized and put on an after-party event but this year, in an attempt to share the influx of racers equally throughout town, the Club will not be hosting a party. Instead, the Ski Club encourages businesses to create their own unique events or specials that will be advertised by the Club. Events could be anything from a dinner/drink special, gear swap, photo booth, outdoor seating/eating, or live music.
