Talkeetna Basecamp opened for business in May 2016.

Camp 1, the private guest cabin, has one bedroom with queen-size bed and dresser. Friends, family and now guests rave about the comfort of the bed. Two large windows look out into the peaceful, undeveloped woodlands surrounding the cabin. THE CABIN IS PERFECT FOR TWO PEOPLE BUT A PULL-OUT FULL SIZED SOFA BED IN THE LIVING AREA PROVIDES ADDITIONAL SLEEPING CAPACITY. The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, gas oven and cooktop. We provide quality cookware, china, utensils and a variety of staples such as quality coffee and teas, spices, cooking oils, and sundries (foil, cleaning products etc.). The dining area table seats four. The single bathroom has a tiled shower, sink and toilet. Cedar boards line the interior of the nearby outhouse for guests who want to bypass the cabin toilet and try a true Alaska experience!

Basecamp has Wi-Fi and 4G LTE cellular phone service. Guests are welcome to use their phone hotspot for wireless network service.

Sauna: Cabin guests have private and exclusive use of the wood-fired sauna. The sauna has lower and upper outside sitting decks for cool downs and reflection. Both decks offer spectacular views of Denali and the mountains of the Alaska Range – weather dependent of course. If guests need help starting or maintaining a fire in the sauna wood stove, we’ll show you how or do it for you.

Guests are invited to sit in the greenhouse or Atrium and walk through the outdoor gardens. It takes a little more planning and effort , but one can grow garden crops in Alaska!

Parking: We offer overnight parking for motorhomes and large RV’s with hook-ups available for water (seasonal) and power. Talkeetna Basecamp has plenty of available year-round parking space for our guests. We can accommodate two SUV/truck type vehicles with trailers. Trailers need to be backed into parking areas; we don’t have a pull through turn-around. We also offer short term storage for boats, snowmobiles, kayaks and other “toys” you might bring along.

The guest cabin does not have a washer or dryer. However, for a modest charge we provide laundry service for our guests.

Guest access

The entirety of Talkeetna Basecamp’s 5 acres and facilities are available to guests (except for the cabin where Martha and I live). Cabin guests have exclusive use of our wood-fired sauna and campfire circle; both look out at Denali, the other great peaks of the Alaska Range and the endless expanse of the Susitna River Valley.

Hike, stroll, ski, snowmobile, bird-watch, or fish right outside of the door of your cabin.

Both the greenhouse and outdoor gardens are available to Basecamp guests. Sit in the Atrium between the greenhouse and the sauna; put on your favorite music and enjoy the serene setting.

Interaction with guests

Martha and I live on-site in a small log cabin. Based on guest preference, we make a point of being as readily available or as invisible as possible to our guests. If you need or want us, we’ll be there; if you want privacy, you’ll have it.

We offer guided fishing outings on local streams and rivers, day or overnight raft trips on these waters and guided interpretive walks on surrounding lands. After you book your reservation, contact us directly for options and price information. We’ll work with and for you in any way we reasonably can.
