Winter Destination Talkeetna, Alaska
08/10/2008 | by Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce
We want to build our winter tourism season and believe Talkeetna is an ideal winter destination for small tour groups, military families, professionals on tour (medical, aviation) and convention delegates. Part of our appeal comes from our easy accessability. We are located about two-and-a-half hours north of Anchorage by a year round maintained road (60 air miles), and halfway between Anchorage and Denali National Park on the Alaska Railroad. Visitors will be drawn to our area because of the beauty of the Alaska Range, and to enjoy winter recreation. Throughout the year we continue to support an active Arts Council, Historical Society and National Park Service presence. Because we are a railroad belt town, we have the opportunity to take advantage of the weekend rail traffic during the winter season.
In the winter our small community of 800 residents truly comes alive as we gather for annual plays, concerts, outdoor recreation (ice skating, ice fishing, skiing, dog mushing), kid's hockey, holiday events, potlucks and night skywatching for stars and the Aurora Borealis. We would like to encourage you, as a Talkeetna business partner, to be open and/or provide your visitor services on weekends throughout the winter months. It is our hope that the rail and road corridor between Anchorage and Talkeetna remains full of winter retreat seekers filling Talkeetna's rooms, pubs, plane seats, museums, galleries, gift shops, dog baskets, ski trails and restaurants.
